Gourd stitch

Gourd stitch, charted on the peyote lattice in round beads.

Gourd stitch is peyote worked in the round without a step-up, so the rounds spiral. It is named for the gourd rattles and fan handles it covers. The chart uses round beads on the half-drop lattice, so a spiral drawn here will spiral the same way on the handle.

Columns drop a half bead, in round beads. Each bead nests between the two below it.

A tube has no left edge, so a chart for it has to close on itself: the editor wraps the design at the last column, and a diagonal that leaves one side comes back on the other. Start the pattern in a round bead line and the finished size follows that bead, not a cylinder.

The chart turns when you do.

Rounds alternate direction, following the spiral: there is no step-up, so each round begins where the last one ended.

Same design, other stitches

Move the cuff to another lattice and look again.

A pattern's stitch can be changed in the editor. The beads keep their codes; the lattice changes, so a diagonal that was clean in one stitch can be checked in the other before anything is bought.
